Day 22: Maubeuge to Sivry
I made it to Belgium today! After resting yesterday I was eager to get back on the bike this morning. It looked a simple trip to the next campsite and was the shortest of the trip so far.
Dad and I left Maubeuge at about 10am. The first part of the route was on a couple of horrible main roads but once we was out of the city we were fine. I was on my own after 20mins and decided to change my route. Originally, I was going to follow the same route as Mum and Dad but I wanted to try something different!
I was so pleased I changed my route. The new direction took me on one of my best rides. I cycled on quiet B and C-roads with nobody around. At one point I was taken off-road and through a forest, which is usual behaviour for Google Maps. The surface was okay to ride on…grassy tracks with dried mud so the bike had no problems dealing with it! I took loads of cool footage on my GoPro, which I then deleted when I reached the campsite. What a wally…still not sure how I did it! I’ll make sure I have loads of cool vids for you tomorrow!
I finished my ride after 1hr 40mins and completed 29km. I wasn’t as fast as normal because of the wild roads. Belgium has been good to me so far…need to go hunting for some decent choc and beer!
