Day 89: Lerici to Viareggio
It had been a wet night! Luckily it stopped in the morning and we woke up to some golden sunshine! Bridge was leaving us today. She experienced a lot of rain during her time so it was typical that the sun had arrived. It’s been great having her here and we loved the surprise. Looking forward to seeing you in Rome!
We set off later than normal because we were saying goodbye to B. The route today was down the coast to Viareggio so we were hoping for some flat land. Hahaha spoke to soon- the first part of the ride was uphill as we escaped Lerici. We followed a busy road down into another town but soon found our way onto the road that would take us all of the way down the coast!
The view of the mountains in the background was majestic. It was such a clear day so the mountains looked sharp! Check out some of the snaps below of our road along the coast.
Unfortunately the views of the beach were non-existent. We were treated to mile after mile of hotels, restaurants and resorts. It reminded us of America- wide boulevards and palm trees. This whole part of the coastline is geared towards tourists. I couldn’t complain too much because it was flat and safe. Tim and I put our foot down and made really good time. We sped along like Boardman and Hoy- cracking stuff!
I’m afraid it wasn’t the most action packed of rides so I can’t treat you to lots of dramatic photos. Here is the data from the ride. My hip and legs are feeling good and are improving each week. We’re off to Pisa tomorrow- should be interesting!
