Day 8: Lancing to Seaford via Brighton
I didn’t have the best of sleeps last night. I was feeling pretty tired this morning but I was soon energised by the rugby on the radio. Well done to the Lions! Dad and I enjoyed our stay in The Barn Caravan Park. Joe, the owner, was very supportive and interested in my ride. I’d definitely go back again and stay a few more nights.
I was looking forward to today because I wasn’t going to be riding alone for most of the leg. My sister’s work colleagues were heading down on the train from London to meet me! Simon, Owen and Phil all work for Inmarsat and are very interested in my ride. Simon contacted me last week and explained his plans. It’s great that people want to come and join me for a cycle. This is what I had in mind before the trip!
I met the guys at Lancing train station at 11:15am and we set off towards Brighton on Cycle Route 2. We were in good spirits and cruised along chatting away. We made it to Brighton beach where we sat down and had lunch. Simon and Owen tried out the fish ‘n’ chips but I wasn’t keen for a massive meal….watching my figure don’t you know.
After lunch we cycled beneath the Brighton overhang, which are series of white cliffs along the coastline. The cliffs mixed with the turquoise water made it seem like we were on the continent (just minus the lovely summer weather). We rolled into Seaford after 2hrs 40mins in the saddle and a decent 41km completed. The fellas joined us for a quick drink and a look around the camper. They also decided to make themselves fashion icons by purchasing some Bath to Rome tee shirts. Thanks a lot for joining me for a leg of the ride lads, I had a great time!
