Day 24: Vogenee to Givet
Hi guys! I’m back after a couple of days of inactivity! Once again the internet wasn’t powerful enough to upload my videos! I’ll try to keep this brief.
The owners of Camping Le Chesle in Vogenee, where we stayed for the evening, kindly donated some money to the charities. Here is the letter that accompanied it:
My sister, Bridget, was arriving today. A 40km ride stood in the way. I decided to take a route away from the main roads and would enter Givet from the North. Once again, this was an inspired decision! My route took me on all kinds of road. Farm tracks, river paths, ripped up concrete roads, forests, hills and quiet villages all featured at some point. Dad and I started out on the road together and discussed the trip ahead (see VIDEO 1). Also, check out this “road” (VIDEO 2) I had to deal with early on in the ride!
I had a couple of nasty hills to contend with as well. There was a 19% gradient slope at one point, which I managed to power up in my granny gear (the easiest gear to pedal in). A cracking downhill was my reward…or was it?? Check out VIDEO 3!
My hip and knees were dealing with the strain of the steep hills quite well. I’ll be interested to see how I get on in Switzerland! I reached the river just north of Givet and pedalled along the cycle path (see VIDEO 4). The long downhill to the river was awesome (see VIDEO 5)! I was excited to see Bridget and hoped she’d enjoy her trip. I reached Givet after 2hrs15mins, 428m of climbing and 43km! Feeling pretty pleased with that!
We met Bridget at the station and had a look around the town. We stopped for a welcome drink at a bar on the river. I introduced Dad to Chimay beer. He loves it now haha! Rest day tomorrow so we’ll be checking out the tourist spots in Givet and chillin!
