Day 15: Licques to Arques
I thought I’d share our typical morning routine with you. It’ll hopefully give you an insight into our daily antics! We get up 7-7:30am ( although this morning it was 8:30! I blame the one hour time difference..) and I get my porridge ready. This hot energy brekkie is perfect before riding but not ideal as the temp gets hotter! I always have a coffee after eating brekkers and read the newspaper (on my phone). I then do my really fun and enjoyable stretches for 20-30 minutes. It’s not that exciting but it really helps me get prepared. Next, we discuss the route and check the map. We normally leave at 9:30 and Dad cycles with me for 15-30 minutes depending on the campsite check out time. Today we left a bit later! See below.
Today’s ride was enjoyable for the first half but less so for the second half. I was biking through lots of fields of wheat, T.May would have been loving it, and other crops. There was one long hill as well, it seemed like I was pedalling for ages but I made the top eventually. The second half of the ride took me into the built up area of St Omer. The roads were busy and the scenery not much to write home about. It reminded of my hometown Bedford(Sorry Bedford, you have your nice spots as well)! The campsite in Arques is nice and located near some man made lakes. Dad and I got our tourist hats on and checked out the local sights in Arques in the afternoon The main square was pretty but the highlight was a canal boat lifting machine! It looked rusty and archaic and is now no longer in use. Dad scoffed at the 4 Euro admission fee..haha.
I finished the 36km ride in 1hr 42mins with an average speed of 21kmh. I hope the hip continues to feel good and doesn’t get tired and painful. I feel like I’m progressing quite well. I hope I can keep it up! Looking forward to the ride tomorrow!
