Day 52: Mettau to Bad Zurzach
Our stay on Camping Waldesruh had been great. Dad and I agreed it had been the best one so far on our travels. It was the perfect place to bring up the 1000 miles milestone. It was time to cracking on the next thousand!
The ride to the next campsite was short. Dad was joining me again after a two week break. He was happy to be back on the saddle and looking forward to checking out the Swiss countryside.
Our journey started off with no drama at all. The main road wasn’t very pleasant but we soon turned off to follow the Eurovelo Route 6. The track soon turned into a gravel path which was the first I’ve seen in Switzerland. It wasn’t ideal for Dad’s bike so we became worried about getting a puncture. We were right to be worried but this time it was my wheel that got the puncture! Classic stuff. This is always the case when Dad and I cycle together haha.
Unfortunately I don’t carry a spare tyre or inner tube so we needed rescuing by Tim in the van. He had made it to the next campsite but had to turn round to drop off the spares. Luckily today’s ride was a short one! Tim appeared quickly and watched on as Dad and I repaired the tyre. We finally cracked it and I was up and running again. Top work from Tim and Dad! An excellent International Rescue service.
Our ride had been delayed by an hour or so but we weren’t in a rush. We cycled the rest of the trip on a mixture of main roads and cycle paths. Swarms of flies appeared randomly much to the annoyance of Dad. After 27km we arrived at the campsite. During the afternoon we had a dip in the pool and relaxed. We’d climbed 440m of hills during the ride today so my legs were aching a little. A stretch in the pool really helped. I’m enjoying these Swiss campsites even though they cost a lot more!
